Government approves the constitution of the 23rd Law Commission!

Law Commission: Recently the government set up the 23rd law commission for three years from September 1,2024 to August 31,2027.

This commission is an executive body established by an order of the government of India. Its main work is to reserach and advice the government on legal reforms and to act as an advisory body.

About the Law Commission :

1. It is an executive body established by Government of India.
2. It was formed to work for legal reforms and to act as an advisory body to Ministry of Law and Justice.
3. This commission includes a full time chairperson, four full time members,the secretaries of the legal affairs and legislative departments.
4. The first  commission was established during British Era in 1834 by the charter act of 1833.
5. Its time frame : every three years.

Objectives of 23rd Law Commission :

1. To identify laws that has become obsolete.
2. Carry out audits of law that affect the poor.
3. Give its views on any law that the law and justice ministry conveys to it.

Tasks of 23rd Law Commission : 

1. Examining the existing laws in the light of Directive Principle of state policy.
2. To suggest ways of improvement and reform and also to suggest such legislations as might be necessary to implement the directive principles.
3. To attain the objectives set out in the Preamble of constitution.
4. To examine the impact of globalization on food security , unemployment and recommend measures for the protection of interests of the marginalized.
5. The terms of reference includes reviewing the judicial administration system to make it more responsive to the demands of the time.
6. There have been other demands also which are eliminating delays, simplifying high court rules and implementing a framework for case flow management.
