Poverty in India : Causes and Solutions !

Poverty or Poverty in India (2024), a problem which is spread worldwide. We have seen so many countries having highest population is suffering from poverty. People are not able to meet the daily needs. Poverty is a problem where a person is not getting the basic necessities for living and is suffering from malnutrition and other health problems too; because he has nothing to eat . One of the major reasons of poverty is Unemployment. Unemployment is one of the problems in which one person is unable to get a required job due to which he suffers from lack of basic needs.

India is a country with highest population.The poverty rate in India is also very high due to unemployment. India is struggling with a major portion of its population living below the poverty line. In this article we will discuss about the major causes and their solution for poverty.

Causes of Poverty in India:

    1. Unemployment :  One of the major reasons for Poverty in India is unemployment. A major portion of India’s population is working in different sectors and are having low wages and no job security . The increasing number of population has increased the demand of jobs but it becomes unable to provide jobs.
    2. Extreme Growth of Population : The rapid growth of population has given the rise to tremendous use of jobs, goods and has increased the exploitation of resources. Rapid increase in growth is not only increasing the demands but is leading to poverty also.
    3. Social Inequality : Discrimination on the basis of caste and creed is leading to poverty. The high caste people are able to enjoy the resources and the lower caste people are suffering from poverty in some parts of India.
    4. Lack in resource utilization : Due to rapid increase in population there is a lack of resource utilization which is leading to poverty.
    5. Lack of infrastructure: Lack of infrastructure in rural areas like poor conditions of roads, water and electricity supplies.

Impacts of Poverty in India : 

Poverty has many bad impacts like health , sanitation ,education. Due to poverty the health conditions have worsen. Child mortality rates has also increased. It has led to poor sanitation problems. People are not getting the basic things and are suffering from malnutrition.

Education of children has also affected. Children are forced to drop out from schools and work to support their families. Child labour has also increased. This leads to illiteracy and the children had to then start begging due to lack of education and skills.

Government initiatives for Poverty in India :

Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY):  This yojana is focusing on providing housing to urban poor.

Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA): Under this act, 100 days of wages is provided to rural poor.

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY):This yojana provides banking services to all poor.

There are many other schemes, yojanas and acts to focus on the problem of poverty

Solutions for Poverty in India :

  1. Job Creations/Providing Employment : Providing employment will be one of the best solutions of poverty. Initiating small businesses will provide employment to large number of people. Skill development will also help in getting jobs.
  2. Promoting sustainable development in rural areas: Promoting sustainable development in rural areas will help in providing electricity in rural areas which will profit the poor people.
  3. Improvement in Healthcare: Improvement in healthcare and sanitation in rural areas aur adivasi areas will help overcome poverty.
  4. Improvement in education and skills : Improvement in education will help in tackling the problem of poverty in india . Increasing number of schools and well qualified teachers to provide better learning environment.
  5. Providing fund/scholarships: By providing funds or scholarships, we can support the economically weaker children and help them studying and earning.
  6. Improve in governance: There should be leaders who think about such problems rather than earning black money . The government should take the required steps to improve the condition.

Government plays a very important role in making a difference in the country . Government should give funds to the NGO’s which are working for these problems and make  a difference. There should be policies for population control and providing employment.
