White Revolution 2.0 : Union Minister Amit Shah introduced White Revolution 2.0 to further strengthen India’s Dairy Sector. The union Home and co operation minister has launched 3 initiatives taken up by the ministry of cooperation as a part of first 100 days of third NDA government.
The White Revolution 2.0 in India, also known as Operation Flood, was a major dairy development program aimed at increasing milk production and addressing the country’s milk scarcity.
Launched in 1970 by the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) under the leadership of Dr. Verghese Kurien (often referred to as the “Father of the White Revolution”), the program transformed India from a milk-deficient nation into the world’s largest milk producer.
Objectives of White Revolution 2.0:
- Primary goal : Its primary goal is to enhance the milk production and empower women through cooperative dairies. It also aims to increase milk collection across the country by 50% over the next 5 years. The aim is to boost daily milk procurement from 660 lakh kilograms to 1,007 lakh kilograms by 2028-29.
- Focus of the revolution : White Revolution 2.0 ‘smain focus is on Women empowerment and Malnutrition. It aims to provide women the nutrition they need because the diet of a women is far different than a men as they go from couple of changes during their lifetime.
- Boost the dairy exports : India aims to account for one third of global milk supply by 2030 which currently accounts for about one third of India’s milk production.
- Launch of MARGDARSHIKA : Margdarshika is also launched for strengthening of 2 lakhs new multi purpose Primary Agricultural milk societies .
Four Pillars of White Revolution 2.0 :
- Empowering women farmers : It ensures greater participation of women candidates in the agricultural and dairy sectors.
- Enhancing Local Milk Production : Boosting Domestic milk production to meet the local demands.
- Strengthening dairy infrastructure : Improvement the dairy farming and dairy system so as to increase the production and provide the daily work.
- Boosting Dairy Exports : Its one of the aim is to focus on increasing india’s dairy export to international market.

The dairy sector is a branch of agriculture which involves breeding, raising, utilizing of dairy , animals mainly cows, for production of milk and processes milk into various dairy products such as butter, cheese and other milk products.

- Cooperative model: The dairy sector in India is primarily based on a cooperative model, with millions of small-scale dairy farmers organized into village milk producer cooperatives.
- Government support: The Indian government has played a crucial role in supporting the dairy sector through various initiatives, including the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB).
- Infrastructure development: The NDDB has built a nationwide milk grid, connecting dairy cooperatives across the country, enabling efficient transportation and distribution of milk.
